Horizontal Patterns

Horizontal siding patterns are the most common siding profiles you’ll find in residential homes. Aside from great aesthetic value, they protect your home against rain. Here are common profiles:

1. Traditional Lap. Siding boards that are set on top of each other to create a water barrier that allows precipitation to roll over the surface of your siding down the surface all the way to the bottom part of your siding.
2. Beaded. Your siding and roofing contractor would use this profile if you want more “texture” to your siding. This is because it features beads at the bottom of every horizontal board.
3. Dutch Lap. It’s quite similar to traditional lap siding, but it has a grooved cut on top of each horizontal siding board.

Vertical Patterns

Vertical siding panels aren’t as common as horizontal patterns, but they work certainly well for certain home styles, particularly those that are ultra-modern. Here are a few siding profiles for your consideration:

1. Board and Batten. Vertical boards that are set with battens that cover tracks. The raised batten casts a shadow over the boards of the siding panels.

2. Panel Siding. This is basically the vertical version of your traditional lap siding. The panels are placed on top of each other, creating a streamlined appearance for the siding surface.

Shake Patterns

Shake patterns try to mimic the appearance of wood. They come in numerous shapes such as square, round, octagonal, hexagona, fish scale, staggered, half cove, and mitered corner forms. Their distinct appeal creates a unique appearance for your home’s exterior.
